A forgotten sister: Agnes of Meran (d. 1201), wife of King Philip II Augustus of France

Jonathan R. Lyon, University of Chicago

This paper considers why the family of Agnes of Meran chose not to remember her.  The motivations behind her exclusion provides insight into complexities shaping an aristocrat’s family experience. The combined findings of these first two papers seriously challenge current interpretations of medieval aristocratic family life.
